Sowing Seeds
Tobacco seeds are very tiny, roughly 10,000 seeds per teaspoon. We
found that sowing our
seeds into shallow trays between June to July and in a warm place is
ideal.
- Fill tray with seed raising mix (they will do fine in a
coarser material such as potting mix but we've found the roots grow
around larger material making it difficult to separate them
when transplanting
later)
- Sprinkle seeds thinly over the seed raising mix
- Place a shallow tray underneath the growing tray
- From here on, only water the bottom tray, this helps to
ensure you don't damage the delicate young stems as they emerge
- Water as needed not letting the seed raising mix dry out
Once
seeds germinate it's important to move the seedlings into sunlight and
keep warm, but still indoors in areas affected by frost.
Now is a good time to start prepare the garden where your plants will
finish growing.
