Colour Curing
This process
is simply hanging leaves in an environment that allows it dry out. As a
result, the leaves should change to light brown or golden colour as
pictured.
- Hang fingers over line in glass/green house or similar.
Ensure windows are left open so air can pass through.
- Check periodically to make sure everything is going well.
During
hot summer days, the colour curing process should take a few weeks. If
you are still hanging fingers in autumn be extra vigilent as it will
take longer for leaves to cure if at all.
- When processing during damp conditions, keep an
eye
on your leaves for the likes of black soot mould. Unfortunately, if
your leaves do become affected we strongly advise you get rid of them
and cut
your losses. This is why we like to start growing early, it gives more
sun time to process our leaves.
- Your leaves are ready when they are a golden colour. Even
if the spine has moisture in (slightly green) we still pull ours down
ready
for the next process.
- Hang on a rack such as cloths airer
- Cover rack with light tarpaulin
- Run a small de-humidifier underneath for a few days to
remove the
remaining excess moisture. Don't worry if leaves become too dry, they
can be re-hydrated later.
