Ahititi Family Retreat is our piece of paradise located in rural northern Taranaki,
an hour drive south to New Plymouth or an hour north to Te Kuiti, it
serves as an escape for whanau (family members) needing a break away
from urban life. With just under 100 acres consisting of 90% native
bush and 10% grazing, it offers the perfect environment for a get away
to re-charge.
It started with an existing Versitile
garage comprising a single room, and bird
aviary. By the time we took possession, the grass had
grown to a hight of the windows giving us plently of initial work to
make it both accessible and presentable.
We are fortunate to be living in close proximity to some of Tāne's beautiful specimens. During the day the whenua is serviced by kereru, tui, piwakawaka, riroriro (grey warbler), Karearea, tauhou (wax-eye) and much more. Calls of ruru, and kiwi grace most nights.
Progress is slow and steady, we hope to add three more cabins in the near future to allow whanau somewhere comfortable and private during their stay. In the meantime, we encourage whanau to continue using tents.
